Ghana Needs an Upgrade, Not a Reset – Bawumia tells Mahama
The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has emphasized that Ghana’s economy, Ghana needs an upgrade rather than a reset at this time.
This seems to be a direct response to comments made by John Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), as part of his campaign.
Ghana’s economy has faced significant challenges, a fact that the government acknowledges. This is why Mr. Mahama has been advocating for a reset.
However, during his first press meeting in Accra, Dr Bawumia expressed his disagreement with Mr Mahama’s stance.
“What this country needs is an upgrade, not a reset. If given the chance, I will implement the measures outlined in our recently launched manifesto to revitalize the economy,” he said.

Dr. Bawumia further remarked, “I am sometimes surprised when former President Mahama speaks about economic mismanagement. He should reflect on his record.”
Mahama has stressed the importance of a complete overhaul of the economy.
He stated that the existing economic framework is unsustainable and needs a fresh approach to achieve long-term growth and stability.
He believes that such a reset would enable Ghana to rebuild its economy from the ground up, with an emphasis on job creation, industrialization, and decreasing the nation’s reliance on external borrowing.
However, during his first Meet the Press event in Accra, Dr. Bawumia voiced his disagreement with Mahama’s viewpoint. He remarked, “What this country needs is an upgrade, not a reset. If given the mandate, I will implement the measures outlined in our recently launched manifesto to revitalize the economy.”

According to Dr Bawumia, instead of a reset what Ghana truly needs is an upgrade.
“I represent the future, Ghana needs an upgrade, not a reset,” he said
He unveiled his vision for the country, highlighting 14 key commitments that he plans to undertake if elected in the 2024 elections.
These include creating jobs, implementing comprehensive tax reforms, and transforming Ghana into a world-class digital economy.
His proposed initiatives also cover reducing the cost of living, expanding public infrastructure, enhancing healthcare access, supporting affirmative action for women and girls, and improving educational opportunities for all.
Additionally, he vowed to ensure good governance, protect the nation’s borders, and maintain neighbourhood safety.
