Economic Fighters League urges Ghanaians to Dismantle NDC-NPP Duopoly
Under Commander-in-Chief Ernesto Yeboah’s leadership, the Economic Fighters League (EFL) has made passionate urges for action as Ghana approaches its 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.
During a gathering at the UDS Guesthouse in Accra on August 26, 2024, Yeboah called on Ghanaians to take back their power from the political dominance of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC). The EFL, known for its strong criticism of both major parties, aims to be a catalyst for significant change, advocating for a government that genuinely prioritizes the needs of the people.
The EFL stressed that the forthcoming elections are pivotal for the country. After 32 years of rule by the NPP-NDC alliance, Ghanaians have faced economic mismanagement, corruption, and unfulfilled promises.
Yeboah pointed out the severe consequences of this prolonged misgovernance, highlighting issues such as widespread poverty, crumbling infrastructure, and a growing disillusionment among the populace. The Economic Fighters League asserted that it is time to dismantle the current power dynamics and establish a government that serves the interests of the people instead of the elite.

The EFL condemned both the NPP and NDC for their self-serving behaviours, referencing unpopular policies like the E-Levy and the recent allocation of millions of cedis for renovating Parliament Chambers while many citizens struggle economically.
According to the EFL, these actions demonstrate that both parties prioritize their interests over those of the citizens they profess to represent.
In light of this discontent, the EFL urged all eligible voters to engage in the electoral process with care and integrity. The organization encouraged Ghanaians to make informed voting choices, supporting candidates who truly reflect the people’s interests, rather than being influenced by financial incentives or allegiance to traditional parties. The EFL emphasized that this election is not merely an endpoint but a crucial step towards reclaiming the nation from years of corruption and greed.
The EFL also sent a strong message to Ghana’s Electoral Commission, insisting that it uphold the rule of law and avoid disenfranchising candidates through excessive filing fees or arbitrary disqualifications. The EFL emphasized that any effort to silence alternative candidates would be viewed as an infringement on the rights of Ghanaians and would not be accepted.
Furthermore, the EFL urged the media to deliver fair and impartial coverage of the elections. They called on journalists to avoid sensationalism and ensure that all candidates, including independents challenging the political duopoly, receive equal opportunities to express their views. The media, they argued, plays a vital role in amplifying the voices of those marginalized by the current system and in fostering a genuinely democratic election process.
Concerns were also voiced regarding the growing militarization of Ghana’s police force, especially during election seasons. The EFL condemned the use of excessive force against civilians exercising their rights, warning that such actions undermine democratic principles and foster a climate of fear. They urged the Ghana Police Service to safeguard the public and ensure a free and fair election, reminding security forces that they are part of the communities they serve.
The Economic Fighters League urges concluded with a call for unity among other political parties and independent candidates. They argued that merely opposing the NPP-NDC duopoly is insufficient. Candidates must show that they are truly dedicated to serving Ghana and prioritize the nation’s interests over their ambitions. By forming strong alliances and focusing on the well-being of the people, these alternatives can offer a viable path forward for the country.
The EFL’s message to Ghanaians is one of empowerment and reclamation. As the 2024 elections draw near, they are encouraging citizens to stand firm, exercise their rights, and demand accountability from those in power.
The journey ahead might be tough, but the Economic Fighters League is confident that with unity and determination, a brighter future can be achieved for Ghana. They urge all patriotic Ghanaians to come together and reclaim the nation’s power, working towards a government that genuinely serves its people.
