Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, The Information Minister, has expressed his admiration and sincere approval of the interventions put forth by the President of Ghana through the 2020 Mid-year budget delivered to parliament.

In his tweets monitored by Electionsinghana.come, he said, “Interventions to support the livelihoods of Ghanaians as COVID-19 imposes challenges the world over.”

According to him, President Nana Akufo-Addo is a caring president who has his citizens at heart and is keep a close watch over their needs to ensure they are met during difficult times such as what COVID-19 has been.

A caring and compassionate leader must be keen to support his people in tough times. That’s what President Akufo-Addo is doing through this supplementary budget. He said in his latest tweet.
He added that; I count myself privileged to have had the opportunity to serve in parliament today as Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta presented the midyear review of the 2020 budget.

In the 2020 Mid-year budget delivered to parliament, government apart from providing an additional three months of free (electricity) power and water, GH¢100 billion was set aside as Ghana Cares Obaatanpa Programme aimed at transforming and modernizing the Ghanaian society.

The government also indicated that it will for the next six (6) months reduce CST from 9% to 5% which is a piece of welcome news.

Again, the government promised to establish a GH¢2 billion Guarantee Facility that will help support Ghana’s business sectors aimed at assisting in job retention.

An Unemployment Insurance Scheme (UIS) is also to be put in place while the government will create an additional GH¢100 Fund for Labour as well as Faith-based which will be directed towards retraining and skills development among others.

To further boost the county’s self-reliance agenda, promote the works of the creative industry, the government is to support the CapBuss Programme with GH¢150 million more, facilitate credit of GH¢50 million for the Creative Arts, the Media and the Conference of Independent Universities.

These planned interventions as revealed by the Minister of Finance in the mid-year budget are aimed at building a robust self-sustaining economic, reducing the impact of COVID-19, saving jobs and providing the needed financing for business to grow.

These interventions led to the excitement and appreciation exhibited by The Information Minister, Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah.
