Ibrahim Mahama sues Wontumi for GHC5m defamation compensation
Mr. Ibrahim Mahama brother of former President of Ghana and current flag bearer of the opposition NDC has sued the ever yearling politician Bernard Antwi Boasiako who is known as Chairman Wontumi for defaming him.
The popular businessman Mr. Ibrahim Mahama sued the Ashanti regional chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party at the High court on July 13th, 2020
He is demanding a GHC5 million as damages to compensate him damages caused him by statements made by Chairman Wontum, the chairman of the NPP for the Ashanti Region.
The suit requires that the Ashanti regional chairman, Chairman Wontumi, Wontumi Multimedia Co Ltd, and one Kenneth Mensah must respond within 8 days to the suit.
Failure on their part will lead to the court passing judgment in their absence.

Mr. Ibrahim Mahama sued after Chairman Wontumi had openly accused the founder of Engineers and Planners of amassing illegal wealth whiles former President of Ghana and current flag bearer of the opposition NDC, John Dramani Mahama was in power as President of Ghana.
Chairman Wontumi is on record to have said “He has bought a car, it is said he has bought a car for Hajia for Real. Then he has bought a house and given it to her in addition, then he has snatched Kenpong’s girl. Because of the money that [he has], it was when we just came into power, that his brother went and stole money for him. Do you understand?”
These pronouncements are alleged to have been made by Chairman Wontumi on a Kumasi based radio and TV stations owned by him.
The writ indicates that the said pronouncements and allegations made by the NPP chairman for the Ashanti region are false and therefore hurts his reputation and the perception of right-thinking members of society about him as a person.
Earlier, Hon Kennedy Agyepong had lost a similar suit brought against him by Abdul Malik Kweku Baako Jnr.
The plaintiff who was aggrieved as a result fo false statements by the vociferous MP dragged him before the law for defaming him. The MP is on record to have dared Abdul Malik Kweku Baako Jnr. to head to the law court in case he was not excited about his pronouncements.
Abdul Malik Kweku Baako Jnr., The Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide subsequently won the case and was awarded damages to the tune of ¢100,000 and an additional cost refund of with the cost ¢30,000 from the defendant, Assin Central legislator, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.
The case filed at the Accra High Court against Chairman Wontumi is yet to be heard and all ears are on the ground to know what will be his fate.
