COVID-19: Akufo-Addo to address fellow Ghanaians today July 26

The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will reportedly address thttp://presidency.gov.gh/ he nation today Sunday July 26 on the locally transmitted coronavirus and matters arising.

Currently, Georgeweb.org can’t confirm what President Akufo-Addo will tell his fellow Ghanaians this time but all we know is he will brief the country on measures put in place to slow and curb the disease that has claimed at least 161 lives as of July 26, 2020.

We’re however certainly sure that Nana Akufo-Addo will comment on the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) cases that were recorded in some Senior High Schools (SHS) about two weeks ago.

Even though reports from the Ghana Health Service (GHS) indicates that the majority of the students who contracted the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) have recovered and are back to campus in preparation to sit for the 2020 WASSCE for school candidates scheduled to officially start from August 3 to September 5, 2020.

His Excellency Akufo-Addo is also expected to make Ghanaians clear on measures put in place in case a WASSCE candidate contracts the disease during the conduct of the examination.

The Minister of information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah in an interview with Kwame Afrifa Mensah on the ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ show indicated that “If you are sick but not bedridden, there are arrangements for you to write. It is not a new policy. But for those who are bedridden, it is obvious that they will be unable to write. However, there may be other options like Nov/Dec”

According to the government spokesperson COVID-19 infected students who might miss this year’s examination due to their health status can sit for WASSCE for Private Candidates popularly known as Nov/Dec.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Ghana Education Service (GES) Council, Michael Nsowah has said: “a candidate who will get infected, test positive for the virus or shows symptoms of the locally transmitted coronavirus during the examination will be isolated”.

The surge in the country’s coronavirus cases and deaths clearly shows that the virus is with us until whenever, if ever, a vaccine is found, so as we expect the President to address the citizenry tonight let us know what you think he should do best as far as WASSCE candidates are concerned.
