Electoral Commission to start registration of new voters

Information reaching Elections-in-Ghana is that the Electoral Commission of Ghana will start the registration of new voters. All Ghanaians who have turned 18 years before or during the registration period will have the chance to be registered as first-time voters.

This will offer young men and women who are mainly in Senior High School an opportunity to get registered as voters and be captured in the Electoral Commission of Ghana’s register.

Per the 2023 calendar of activities released by the EC, it disclosed that its first Continuous Registration of Voters will kick-start on 16th February 2023.

All political parties in Ghana are aware of this date and the activities as contained in the 2023 calendar of the Electoral Commission of Ghana which was made public in January 2023.

The Continuous Registration of Voters will also offer persons who are older than 18 years and have not registered an opportunity to register.

Another major activity to look forward to is the Exhibition of the Voters Register in June from 02/06-10/06/2023

Before someone can vote in Ghana, he or she must be a registered voter. It only takes 4 steps to register as a voter

For you to register as a voter, you must present a valid National ID Card to the registration center in your electoral area.

Acceptable forms of identification are:

National Identity Card (“Ghana Card”)
Passport

In the absence of any of the valid IDs above, an applicant must submit one
completed Identification Guarantee Form endorsed by two registered voters

STEP 2

The Applicant will be required to provide his or her name, age, sex, residential address and other necessary information for the completion of the voter registration form (Form 1A) by the Registration Officer

STEP 3

Submit the completed registration form to the Data Entry Clerk to have your biometrics and photographs captured.

STEP 4

After going through the above steps, the registration official will issue to you a laminated voters ID Card and a receipt acknowledging your registration.

The Commission publishes in the Gazette an invite to every person who is entitled to be registered as a voter to apply, during a period specified in the notice, to the registration officer assigned to the divisional register wherein the candidate normally resides
