PNC postpones presidential primaries to September 7
The opposition People’s National Convention (PNC) postpones its national delegates congress for presidential primaries to Saturday, September 7.
This will be the second time the party PNC postpones presidential primaries, which is expected to elect national executives and its flagbearer for the December 7 elections.
The congress was originally scheduled for Saturday, August 24 but was moved a week later to Saturday, August 31.
The People’s National Convention (PNC) has rescheduled its national delegates congress for Saturday, September 7.
This is the second time the event has been postponed, which will involve the election of national executives and the party’s flagbearer for the upcoming December 7 elections.
Originally, the congress was scheduled for Saturday, August 24, but it was first moved to Saturday, August 31. The latest change delays the event by another week.
“Following a National Executive Committee meeting held today, August 30, 2024, at the Headquarters in Accra, a decision was made to postpone the National Delegates Congress to September 7, 2024,” a statement released on Friday, August 30, noted.
“It should be remembered that the party had previously set the National Delegates Congress for August 31, 2024, to reorganise its structures and prepare for the December 7, 2024, Presidential and Parliamentary elections,” the statement, signed by Acting General Secretary Prince Agyemang Duah, added.
“Members, supporters, sympathizers, and the general public, especially aspirants, are urged to take note of this new development and act accordingly,” it concluded.
The rescheduling comes as the party continues its preparations for this important event, which is expected to significantly influence its leadership and strategy for the December elections.
Despite the adjustments to the timeline, the PNC remains dedicated to holding a successful congress that will shape its future political direction.
The party completed the vetting of all aspirants on Thursday and Friday, August 23 with only one disqualified.

The People’s National Convention (PNC) has raised concerns regarding the recent provisional certification granted to the People’s National Party (PNP) by the Electoral Commission (EC) in preparation for the 2024 elections.
This development follows a warning from the National Executive Council of the PNC, which threatened legal action against the revival of the party that originally brought Dr. Hilla Limann to power in 1979.
The PNP was reestablished after its founding members separated from the PNC following three years of internal disputes among PNC leadership.
During a previous National Executive Council meeting, PNC leaders warned of potential legal action against the PNP’s revival led by Janet Asana Nabla and her defectors, arguing that they have no right to associate with Dr. Hilla Limann since they chose to leave the PNC.
David Apasera was recorded stating, “The decision by some disgruntled members of the PNC to resurrect our former party, the PNP, is an attempt to confuse our members and Ghanaians, and it will not succeed.”
He further emphasized, “All those who have left, as we have stated, the PNP will not succeed because we are going to challenge it.”
Recently, PNC lawyers have submitted a petition to the EC to voice their opposition.
In a statement dated July 16, the party asserted that although the PNP has received provisional certification, the EC should not issue a “final certificate” that would allow the PNP to participate in the upcoming elections or any future elections.
