Ken Kuranchie ditches NPP to run as independent parliamentary candidate
The managing editor of the newspaper Searchlight,Kenneth Kuranchie, who had previously defended President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s presidential ambitions in court, has expressed his dissatisfaction with the treatment he received from the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) since the party took office in 2017.
During the 2016 Election Petition, the journalist-turned-lawyer, who was imprisoned by the Supreme Court, vented his resentment at what he saw as the President’s former girlfriends receiving lucrative appointments at the expense of people like him who had made sacrifices for the party.
While conceding that he did not join the party for personal benefit but rather to experience improved administration under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s leadership, Kenneth Kuranchie complained that this anticipation had not been achieved.
Speaking on May 11, 2024, on Accra 100.5 FM’s Saturday edition of The Citizen Show, hosted by Nana Out Darko, Mr. Kenneth Kuranchie, who ran unsuccessfully on the NPP ticket for the Okaikwei North Constituency parliamentary seat in the Greater Accra Region, expressed his dissatisfaction with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s administration.
He explained that although he did not anticipate receiving payment for his services to the NPP, he thought that in the event that he did, it ought to be just and equal.
To the detriment of most Ghanaians, Kenneth Kuranchie denounced the habit of utilizing governmental influence to enrich friends, family, and allies.
Holding people in positions of authority responsible for their actions, he asserted, is crucial in order to wield power for the betterment of all citizens.
After showcasing his dedication to advancing accountability and just administration, Mr. Kuranchie declared his intention to run as an independent candidate in the next parliamentary elections.
Born in Tepa, Ashanti Region on August 5, 1969, Kenneth Kuranchie Agyei is a Ghanaian journalist and a former member of the National Media Commission’s board. In the past, he was recognized by the public as a representative of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Beginning as a block molder, he eventually worked as a stringer for the P&P Newspaper before joining the Chronicles as an editor and founding the Daily Searchlight newspaper.
