electronic gate at kotoka and road tolls return
Also, Dr. Bawumia, speaking in the Volta Region as part of his campaign tour, advocated for the return of road tolls.
He emphasized that the suspension of road tolls in 2021, as part of the government’s efforts to ameliorate the economic impact of the COVID-19 epidemic, had drastically reduced the funding available for road maintenance and improvement.
He highlighted that this has resulted in a significant reduction in road conditions across the country, impacting both economic activity and Ghanaians’ daily lives.
The Vice President proposed that modernizing the toll collection system will solve previous inefficiencies and public concerns.
“Let us go back to a system of broad-based road tolls. The tolling system has to come back, and I think it will come back. It is a fundamental mistake of the Government to place all road projects on the budget. The government doesn’t have enough money, and the private sector has to be brought in.”
The Vice President laid forth his vision for Ghana if elected President, promising to grow agriculture, ensure power sufficiency, and restructure the country’s tax system adding electronic gate at kotoka by December, 2024.
