Election 2024: NPP, NDC supporters clash in Asesewa over branding of DRIP equipment, several injured
Barely three months to Ghana’s 2024 historic presidential and parliamentary elections, NPP and NDC supporters clash in Asesewa over the branding of DRIP equipment. The clash has left several injured on both sides of the political divide.
Following the clash, the Ghanaian police established a heavy police presence in Asesewa to ward off any new clashes. According to our sources on the ground, the clash ensued between the die-hard supporters of the NPP parliamentary candidate Joseph Tetteh and National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) Bismark Tetteh Nyarko.
What led to the clash?
The clash was fuelled by the intentional branding of the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) equipment for the community in the colours and logo of the ruling NPP. This did not go down well with members of the National Democratic Congress, hence the confusion and subsequent clash. The clash started at a hotel owned by the NPP candidate.
Members of the NDC, upon seeing the NPP in the act of deception, decided to get their evidence. When they attempted to take pictures of the equipment of the districts branded with the NPP logo, their colleagues from the NPP resisted the act and confronted them. This confrontation was countered by the NDC in equal measure. This sparked off the brawl and left several party faithful from NDC and NPP with injuries. The NPP constituency chairman for the electoral area was not spared his fair share of the injury.

According to our sources, the Ghana police were very responsive as they went to the scene in real-time to halt further destruction of properties and lives. Their proactive responses have beefed up since the officers called for urgent re-enforcement from the Ghana Police Regional Command. The police counter-terrorism unit was dispatched to the scene to maintain law and order.
In an interview by Citi News sighted by Electionsinghana.com, the youth leader of the NPP for the Asesewa, Salifu Mohammed, also known as Foreigner, denied his involvement in the clash.
After the clashes, information available on this portal indicates the NPP supporters paraded the DRIP equipment through the main streets of Asesewa before taking it to the district assembly.
In a related development, an immediate investigation into the clash has been called for by the NPP’s communication bureau in the constituency. The party has also condemned the alleged attack on their chairman.
Allegations that the NPP candidate personally purchased the DRIP equipment have been refuted by the National Democratic Congress’ MP, Bismark Tetteh Nyarko, who toured and addressed communities such as Asesewa Zongo.
At the time of filing this report, the Ghana police had yet to release a presser on the matter.
