EC addresses Ghanaians ahead of voters registration exercise today
The Electoral Commission of Ghana chairperson, Madam Jean Mensa will today Monday, June 29, 2020 address the nation on the modalities for the new voters register the EC is set to compile.
The Supreme Court last week in its ruling gave the electoral commission a go-ahead to begin the compilation of new voters register after the National Democratic Congress, NDC, and some private citizens sued the EC to prevent the commission from compiling the new voter’s register.
The Court also ruled that the use of old voter’s ID card and Ghana birth certificate are not allowed as a form as identification at the registration centers.
According to the Supreme Court only Ghana card, passport or a guarantor are the forms of identification for the registration exercise.
Following the Court’s permission, the chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensa will address the country today to outline the modalities for the registration process to Ghanaians and also inform the country on the readiness of the commission for the exercise.
