Martin Amidu can’t judge Kissi Agyebeng by his ‘low standards’ – MP Suhuyini
Alhassan Suhuyini, Member of Parliament (MP) for Tamale North constituency, has slammed Martin Amidu, the former Special Prosecutor, for attempting to unseat Kissi Agyebeng, his successor.
According to Mr. Suhuyini, Mr. Amidu does not have the right to control who succeeds him or how they perform their jobs.
He disputes Amidu’s evaluation of Agyebeng’s work, saying that Mr. Agyebeng cannot be judged by Amidu’s “low standards” benchmark.
Speaking on Saturday, May 18, Suhuyini, who is also the Ranking Member on the Lands and Forestry Committee of Parliament, chastised Amidu for his behavior on JoyNews’ Newsfile show.
He blamed Amidu’s underwhelming performance during his term on the former Special Prosecutor’s evident resentment toward those who succeed him.
Mr. Suhuyini claims that Amidu’s appeal exposes his incapacity to carry out his duties in an efficient manner and shows his anger towards people who surpass him.
“Mr Martin Amidu’s standards are not the ones by which we should judge Kissi Agyebeng’s performance because Mr Martin Amidu’s standards are low. And in his petition, he seems to be suggesting that his standard was the best standard and that was the way Kissi Agyebeng should have proceeded and that again in my view is typical Martin Amidu for you.”
News spread quickly after it was revealed that Martin Amidu had asked President Akufo-Addo to remove the Special Prosecutor who is currently in place.
The promptness with which Chief Justice Gertrude Torkonoo received Mr. Amidu’s plea, dated April 30, 2024, on May 6, 2024, demonstrated how seriously the case was taken.
In his appeal, Mr. Amidu mentioned misconduct involving judges and the administration of justice, as well as procurement irregularities in the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s (OSP) car acquisition.
He also expressed worries about the OSP’s alleged dubious appointments, rights to information abuses, and arrests and detentions that violate citizens’ rights.
According to the NDC MP, President Akufo-Addo now has the chance to fire yet another independent officer who isn’t on the government’s good side because of Mr. Amidu’s activities.
Chief Justice asks Kissi Agyebeng to respond to impeachment allegations
The Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng has been asked by Chief Justice Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo to react on the issues brought forth in a petition that calls for his impeachment. This phase, in her opinion, is essential to figuring out the best course of action to pursue in relation to the impeachment process.
In accordance with the directive, the Chief Justice emphasized the judiciary’s dedication to maintaining fairness and due process when managing the cases.
“This is to forward to you a copy of the petition dated 30th April 2024 sent to the Office of the President which was forwarded to the Office of the Honourable Lady Chief Justice on 6 May 2024.
“Kindly provide your comments to the matters raised to enable the Honourable Chief Justice to determine if a prima facie case has been made out,” portions of the letter said.
