Nana Addo asked Kissi Agyebeng to resign months ago but he refused — Martin Kpebu
Martin Kpebu has made allegations that Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng’s resignation was allegedly sought by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo several months ago.
Kpebu claims that this request was made in response to a plea for Agyebeng’s dismissal that was submitted by former Special Prosecutor Martin Amidu.
According to Kpebu, he learned from sources inside the President’s Office that Kissi Agyebeng had declined to step down.
“Martin Amidu has served as an opportunity for President Akufo-Addo to get Kissi Agyebeng out. Akufo-Addo had asked Kissi to resign a few months ago.
“I have my sources at the presidency, and they told me that President Akufo-Addo asked Kissi to resign, but Kissi said no, he is not going anywhere,” reports on 3news stated.
He went on to say that the president is anxious to get rid of the Special Prosecutor because he thinks Kissi Agyebeng may investigate him.
Martin Kpebu had already voiced dissatisfaction with the plea that former Special Prosecutor Martin Amidu had submitted asking for Kissi Agyabeng’s dismissal.
Amidu’s petition, which served as the foundation for Agyebeng’s impeachment, claims that there were procurement violations in the acquisition of cars for the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) as well as other abuses involving judges and the administration of justice.
Additionally, the OSP has been accused of violating citizens’ rights through unauthorized detentions and arrests, information access abuses, and inappropriate personnel appointments.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo forwarded the petition for Agyebeng’s removal, and as per reports, for which the Chief Justice is currently determining whether there is a prima facie case to establish a committee for Agyebeng’s impeachment in accordance with Article 146 of the Constitution.
Amidu specifically mentioned Agyebeng’s alleged violations of people’s rights in relation to the detention of people like Prof. Frimpong Boateng and Cecilia Dapaah.
He further asserted that Agyebeng had infringed upon right to information by requesting appointment letters and salary details of all OSP staff to be provided on a pen drive.
Amidu also brought up the issue of staff members being appointed to the office improperly.
