2024 Election: Independent Presidential Candidate, George Twum-Barimah-Adu unveils “Agric for Wealth” Policy
The “Agric for Wealth” policy has been introduced by independent presidential candidate George Twum-Barimah-Adu in an attempt to transform Ghana’s agricultural industry and unleash the country’s enormous economic potential.
At the inaugural Farmers’ Day event, which was hosted by the Peasant Farmers Association of Ghana, this grand project was introduced to farmers in the Upper East region of Navrongo.
The “Agric for Wealth” policy comes at a critical juncture in Ghana’s agricultural history, as the country faces numerous obstacles, including restricted access to resources, market volatility, and climate change. In order to address these problems head-on, Mr. Twum-Barimah-Adu’s policy seeks to promote innovation, significant investment, and the empowerment of farmers and other industry stakeholders.
Mr. Twum-Barimah-Adu emphasized in his speech the abundance of Ghana’s agricultural resources, which include fields of maize and cassava in the Eastern and Northern regions and plantations of bananas and cocoa in the Ashanti and Greater Accra areas. Even with this abundance, a lot of farmers still struggle because of persistent issues in the agricultural value chain.
According to him, the “Agric for Wealth” policy is an all-encompassing plan that addresses a number of agricultural industries, such as animal husbandry, fishery, and poultry farming. Its main goals are to guarantee that farmers make money from their produce, to close financial gaps, to lessen the effects of climate change, to improve infrastructure, and to encourage farmers to work together.
The innovative solutions that are at the core of the policy include temperature-controlled storage facilities, farmers’ cooperatives, pensions under the E-Sika policy, and sustainable financing systems.
In order to achieve the revolutionary potential of the “Agric for Wealth” program, Mr. Twum-Barimah-Adu emphasized the significance of strong leadership, cooperative efforts, and sustained investment from all stakeholders.
With the use of this policy, Mr. Twum-Barimah-Adu hopes to create resilient communities, sustained economic growth, and a reduction in poverty in Ghana by using the agricultural sector as a catalyst.
According to the independent candidate, the “Agric for Wealth” program is a daring move in the right direction toward utilizing Ghana’s agricultural history to create a strong and resilient country.
