The Lawmaker that Shoots the Lawless Warning Shot
Who shot the warning shot? When a lawmaker shoots a lawless gun, the law the lawmaker makes must be doubled-edged in punishing and reprimanding its own maker as a precedent good enough to let the ordinary Ghanaian who cannot prove his or her citizenship with a birth certificate understand that, after all, the law has the power to bite every prey and action that triggers it irrespective of one’s stature and status in public.
Every Ghanaian or foreigners living in Ghana who sees nothing wrong with the action of Hawa Koomson. Well, from the horse’s own mouth “It was my gun. I fired my own warning shot”. Just wondering if our MPs and politicians have seen this –Discharge your duties or we vote you out – Agyinasare to politicians.
Who is running the show in the own going registration? Is it the Electoral Commission or Hawa Koomson in the Awutu Senya East constituency? The police looked on helplessly. Power is sweet. Is this action mirroring the truth in this old statement by John Emerich Edward Dalberg-Acton that “Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely”?
What may be the underlying reason for such an act?
The minister who is Member of Parliament (MP) for Awutu Senya East, claimed her opponent, Philis Naa Koryoo, had bused some people into the constituency to register at the Steps to Christ registration post in Kasoa. One reason for taking that action may be to protect the process from being abused by others and to protect herself but hold on, where were the police in offering the needed protection.
The rules governing the registration are clear on the need to challenge those who are busing others in. One can report to the police to take over as well. Was this a Yaa Asantewaa spirit field Hawa Koomson as social media wants us to believe? Did you say it is a registered gun? But who said it can be shot anyhow and anywhere? This reminds me of Shatta and Stonebowy at the VGMA 2019. Do we need a warning shot from an MP to do the right thing if the police at post did not see the need for it?
Are some members of parliament not acting ultra vires of the law and their responsibilities? Actions such as these tell us or are an indication of the reality that
1. Some members of parliament are not honourable as their title suggests after all. What is honourable in giving warning shots and threatening the lives of the very very people whose mandate you are seeking. This is very bad publicity that will hunt Hawa Koomson come December 7th. She might just have triggered her losing ticket out of parliament.
2. They make all our laws but do not believe in their ability and potency to deliver the needed lawful conducts and execution to get offender death with hence some take such steps to show off their power. Hypocrisy is when the lawmaker decides to execute the law and the law executor refuses to act because the lawbreaker is in government.
3. Some MP’s have outlived their usefulness to parliament and their constituencies. Some members of parliament are being chased by their own shadow as the thought of losing is becoming a reality.
4. There is some sweet honey that flows endlessly from the Parliament Honeycomb. Don’t be deceived when a politician tells you that, there are no gains in being a member of parliament. The last primaries of the NDC and NPP and how money was thrown at delegates to influence and win is enough evidence that parliament is flowing with milk and honey whiles you and are ravaged by poverty whiles we beg for ‘nokofio’ from Member of Parliaments, get poor health facilities when they seek all the best health care abroad if not for COVID-19, free education whiles their wards attend the best and most expensive paid schools in America and Europe.
We are indeed going into an election of our lives that will make or unmake us especially those who need the mandate of the people. Come tamed and humbled for Ghanaians don’t want ‘Gidigidi’. Everyone who comes in this form will lose the trust of the people and
Hon. Hawa Koomson having been caught on video and admitted that she shot the weapon at the registration center must be counting her losses now.
Hoohoo kwa!, Your warning shot gave you a bad name. You shot the gun, you scare the people, they hooted at you, your returning to parliament is in shambles and under threat, at a time we need more women in parliament. What men can do, women can do it better.
