NPP must Avoid Repeat of 2020 Parliamentary Performance
John Kwame Duodu, the First Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Constituency, is urging party parliamentary hopefuls to step up their game to secure a majority in Parliament by 2025, avoid a repeat of 2020 parliamentary performance.
Mr. Duodu, who also holds the position of National Deputy Organizer of the Friends of Bawumia 2008 Foundation (FoB-’08) and the Ashanti Regional TESCON Patron, stressed the significance of vigorous campaigning, particularly in the party’s strongholds.
“We must all be aware of the parliamentary seats we lost in the 2020 Parliamentary election as we gear up for the 2024 elections,” Mr Duodu stated. “I urge our committed Parliamentary Candidates to take charge of our campaigns nationwide, especially in our strongholds, and step up their efforts.”
The NPP suffered a loss of over 35 seats to the opposition NDC in the 2020 elections, resulting in a challenging governance situation for President Akuffo Addo’s second term, as the party had a narrow majority in Parliament and a Speaker from the opposition.

Mr Duodu emphasized the importance of winning seats in strongholds and ensuring a resounding victory for Dr Bawumia and Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh. He also highlighted the advantages of having a clear majority in Parliament for the ruling party, emphasizing the flexibility it provides in decision-making and policy formulation. Additionally, he reminded party members of past struggles and stressed the significance of achieving victory in both parliamentary and presidential elections on December 7.
We are calling on all NPP members and our dedicated Parliamentary Candidates to join forces for a national call to action. Victory is within reach through dedication and empowering the grassroots. The 2024 election is crucial for the NPP; we must secure a strong majority of Parliamentary seats and achieve a decisive presidential victory,” he emphasized.
