I Don’t Trust Bawumia’s Promises – Nana Ohene Ntow
Nana Ohene Ntow, a Movement for Change devotee and former leading member of the New Patriotic Party, says: I Don’t Trust Bawumia’s Promises, he has no confidence in the ruling party’s pledge to streamline the mining sector, relative to curbing the illegal mining menace, popularly called “galamsey”.
The New Patriotic Party launched their 2024 manifesto at GSTS in Takoradi on Sunday, August 18.
The event saw in attendance the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Vice President and NPP flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and wife, Samira Bawumia, the party’s Vice Presidential Candidate, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh alias NAPO, Majority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong, Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare and a host of the NPP leadership together with members and supporters as well as other dignitaries.

The manifesto captured the various sectors of the economy with promises to improve the living conditions of the Ghanaian populace, these are valuable promises yet to be scrutinised by Ghanaians before making their decisions on December 7, 2024.
Delivering the manifesto to the gathering and the nation, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia pledged, if elected President, he would introduce some measures which would effectively improve small-scale mining and eliminate galamsey.
Dr. Bawumia reiterated his pledge to provide things that will have ameliorating effects on the physically challenged society, the youth and businesses as well as the Sports fraternity among other facets of the nation.

Touching on the manifesto during the “Kokrokoo” panel discussion on Peace FM, Prof. Joseph Osafo found the content of the manifesto impressive.
He believed the policies outlined by the NPP flagbearer would bring relief to the citizens, however, he prefers more to be done in certain areas.
But to Nana Ohene Ntow, “if in 8 years of Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government, galamsey situation is worse and the encroachment on forest reserves is worse and we are receiving another promise, then I have an issue with it”.
To him, he has confidence issues with Bawumia’s commitment to tackle the galamsey menace, hence his trust in the manifesto is “very low”, this shows that all the promises are just mere of the predecessor Nana Addo.
The manifesto, he said on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” show, does not give him the “kind of inspiration and hope”, stressing “I don’t trust that kind of promise”. For him, the trust is very low and the promises in Bawumia’s manifesto are the same with low engagement and decision compared to the one Nana Addo presented in the previous 8 years. Nana Ohene doubts the credibility and commitment of the ‘mate’ of the driver with low promises.
