How to vote on election day
Voting the right way ensures that your vote is counted as valid in determining the winner of an election. It requires knowing the procedures and the rules to be obeyed. We got you covered with this How to vote procedures.
Here is a step-by-step guide on what to do at the polling station
Step 1 of how to vote
As a registered voter, go to the Polling Station on the day of the election with your Voter ID and join the EC voters queue.
Step 2
Where there are more than one voting center at a polling station, on arrival at the polling station, there would be an EC official who will examine the particulars on your Voter ID and ask you to join the right queue.
When you are close to the voting area proper, a polling assistant will check your details in the name reference list to confirm your name is on the list.
Step 3
Your identity would have to be verified to prove you are the owner of the voter ID in your possession and that you are a registered voter.
This will be done with the voter verification machine at the polling station you reported to.
Step 4 od how to vote
When the EC polling station officer sure of your eligibility and you have been verified,
he/she will provide you with the Presidential Ballot paper.
As a voter, you must check if there are unapproved marks on it.
Whether it has been stamped with the EC stamp to validate it as origination from the EC and polling station. The absence of EC stamp would turn you vote cast into a rejected ballot.
Step 5
Walk to the Voting Booth, get your thumb into the ink provided by the EC and thumbprint (correctly) your choice of candidate.
Before you told the ballot in the right manner, clean your hand of the remaining ink. This is to ensure you don’t mistakenly spoil the ballot. If this happens, report to the EC officials to get it replaced.
Step 6
Haven folded the ballot paper for the presidential vote, drop it in the ballot box labeled Presidential (Presidential Ballot Box)
Ensure that it is the right box before you drop your cast vote into it.
If you are not sure, confirm from the EC officials at the polling station.
Step 7
Go to the next table where the EC polling assistant is seated and pick the next ballot paper. This paper is the Parliamentary Ballot Paper for electing your representative in parliament. Make sure it is stamped with the EC stamp for the polling station and that it has no marks.
Step 8
Go to the Parliamentary Voting Booth, vote for just one person on the ballot paper.
This is done by thumb-printing (correctly) your choice of MP.
Clean the excess ink on your hand before you told the ballot paper.
Step 9
Walk to the ballot the Parliamentary Ballot Box and put your vote or ballot paper inside.
Step 10
After voting, the law requires that you leave the Polling Station after voting.
You can return at 5 pm for the count.
