New voters register, our objection remains unchanged – NDC
Our objection to the compilation of a new voters register remains unchanged is the latest message from the NDC. In a press release by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) dated 3rd June, the party has indicated some misleading suggestions in the media which suggest that the NDC has backtracked in its opposition on the compilation of new voters register by the Electoral Commission.
The party also indicated that the EC’s pilot project revealed serious issues that reinforce its position as a party that the EC’s attempt to compile a new voters register is needless.

” We wish to state unequivocally, that our position against the compilation of a new voters’ register has not changed. We maintain that the existing voters’ register, which has successfully delivered (5) national elections with legitimate outcomes, is credible and fit for purpose.”
The party also indicated in the press release that, it is alarmed by the entrenched position of the intransigent and headstrong Jean Mensah led C to foist a new register on the country. The NDC believes the stand taken by the EC is unreasonable and financially imprudent and a ploy to rig the 2020 election for the president and the ruling party.
It also argued that the EC will disenfranchise millions of eligible voters which could put the peace and security of the nation in limbo.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) will make known to the general public its findings during the EC’s pilot registration exercise conducted on the 2nd and 3rd of June across the country ahead of the compilation of the new voters’ register and the 2020 general election to be held on December 7th.
However, the EC has revealed that; it was satisfied with the pilot registration exercise and all challenges faced (technical) have been taken care of. The EC has been asked by the supreme court to give a legal basis for which it is requiring the exclusion of the Voters’ ID as a means of identification for the new voters register it intends to compile. The National House of Chiefs has also spoken on the dangers and threats of not considering the views of stakeholders before going ahead with the compilation of a new register.
